Q The first step to developing an insightful paper on a topic is to really read and fully understand what you have read. You’ll use critical reading skills: annotating, listing notes and questions, summarizing, and critically analyzing the film (and excerpts from the play), A Raisin in the Sun. Please review all guidelines in the textbook and class notes to be sure you have included the following: • Introduction. o Hook us in, let us know something about the text/film. o Indicate the current relevance of the film/play. o Present your thesis, indicating what aspects of the play/film you'll analyze to convince your reader to read and understand the film as you do. • Body o Present your analysis. State your key evaluation (where and how much the original text succeeds or fails in connecting with its target audience) by carefully showing the source’s rhetorical techniques and your analysis of each in terms of logos, ethos, and pathos. o Make sure your paragraphs are organized in a logical way and that each has a clear topic sentence. • Conclusion: o Leave your reader thinking about this issue. The following must be included as your final paper submission: A 3-4-page typed essay, 1-inch margins, 12-point font size, Times New Roman font (all standard for MLA style), MLA-style heading, including MLA-style in-text citations and a separate Works Cited page. Be certain your submitted paper features correct MLA citation format for your in-text citations and the Works Cited page, and demonstrates meticulous editing and proofreading for grammar and mechanics. See Excelsior.edu and/or Purdue University's OWL website for assistance if needed. Show your careful reading and reasoning in your essay that summarizes, uses both quotations and paraphrase, presents and analyzes key points and evidence from the original text, and argues your own thesis. Please note: Late paper submissions will be penalized one letter-grade off per calendar day late.
